[email protected]Cailin is currently living in Boston via South Korea and New York. During her time teaching 2nd grade in Korea at Chadwick International, she joined the first official cohort for PEN, the Progressive Education Network. With a focus on heralding the historical legacy of progressive education, PEN provided a cross-country intensive institute for educators to study, observe, and promote this movement. It was through this cohort that Cailin met Ben. An inspiration not only by his focus on providing a progressive education to students, but by authentically living it alongside them. Choosing to complete degrees in human development and social change versus a traditional degree in education was a bold and respected choice. Ben continued on to follow his passion and co-found The Open School. Cailin dedicates her ride not only to advocate and raise awareness for this positive model of education, but also to the memory of Tom Little, former head of the Park Day School and dedicated promoter for how progressive education can save America's schools.

[email protected]Following a two year teaching stint at Chadwick International School in South Korea, Emily is currently living in Brooklyn and pursuing an M.Ed. in Curriculum Design at Teachers College, Columbia University. Passionate about envisioning and re-thinking school structures, Emily found inspiration in the mission driving the establishment of The Open School. With the unique time that educators have considering summers off, Emily wanted to find a way to support The Open School’s philosophy of learning through experience by enacting these ideals on the twists and turns of a long distance bike trip. Embarking on such a journey means to model for her students what it means to take healthy risks and raise awareness by taking real action. Emily believes individual efforts can lead to collective change, and dedicates this bike trip to Ben Page for having the courage and energy to pursue the founding of The Open School.
